Some people may suffer from severe cases of heartburn, in which case they may have a condition called acid reflux or GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease).
Natural remedies for heartburn symptoms can be used for acid reflux as well. There are a lot of treatments available for GERD. They can range from medications, natural treatments to even surgeries.
Depending on the severity of the condition, a lot of people use natural remedies over anything else as they don’t have the side effects which may be very harmful to the body. Natural treatments are always cheaper too.
The only thing which makes a patient go for prescription or over-the- counter drugs is instant relief as some patience is required when you use acid reflux natural remedies. But a long-term use of medications will always have its negative effects on the body.
Diet and lifestyle changes always help with most health issues and the same goes with acid reflux.
Common food triggers include citrus fruits and juices, tomato sauces, chocolate, spicy foods, fried foods, raw onions, raw garlic, sugar, peppermint, spearmint, spicy foods, alcohol, tobacco and caffeine-containing products. Try eliminating these for a while and see how you feel.
Milk should also be avoided. Sometimes it can give instant relief, but milk contains calcium and protein, and they eventually stimulate even more acid production in the stomach. This can cause a more severe heartburn that can return in as little as a half an hour.
One of the oldest home remedies for heartburn and acid reflux is baking soda, which is sodium bicarbonate. I use to take baking soda a lot and while it does give temporarily for many people, I don't recommend that you use it very often because it can upset the natural acid balance in your body.
Herbal teas are also effective natural remedies for acid reflux conditions. Herbs such as ginger, fennel, licorice, papaya, and chamomile are always good. One of my favorites is sipping a cup of warm chamomile tea after meals, for me it usually will prevent an upset stomach or a heartburn.
Drinking a large glass of water at the first sign of a heartburn often helps too. The water dilutes the stomach acids thereby relieving the patient to some extent. Fruits like bananas and apples work very well in reducing the acidity of the body.
Aloe vera juice is another very good option for people suffering with acid reflux or heartburns. Natural remedies for acid reflux and heartburn are the best choice than any other form of treatment.
