Are you suffering from allergies? Do you pray for relief? Well, you are not alone, I suffer from allergies too. I have used over-the-counter and prescription medicine, but I will discuss some affordable and natural ways that you can seek relief from your allergies.
There are many natural allergy remedies that are safe, have little to no side effects, and can be a lot more effective than over-the-counter remedies that do have side effects and in several cases do not produce the desired results.
But what is an allergy and what causes it? The immune system is your bodies defense mechanism against harmful foreign substances such as viruses and bacteria. For some people the immune system incorrectly targets a harmless substance as an invader, which causes their white blood cells to overreact.
Simply put, it reacts to substances called allergens that aren't harmful and don't usually cause any problems.
When the oversensitive or improperly developed immune system sees these allergens, it sends out chemicals called histamine. It's the histamines that cause the symptoms that are common with allergies.
Some allergic reactions are nasal congestion, coughing, wheezing, itching, watery eyes, runny nose, swelling, hives, rashes, shortness of breath, headache and fatigue.
The most common allergens are pollen, dust, certain metals like nickel, animal hair, insect bites, dust mites, lanolin, common drugs like penicillian and aspirin, cosmetics, molds, food additives like benzoic acid and sulfur dioxide, and chemicals found in soap and cleaning supplies.
Please realize that medical attention is needed sometimes. For example, if you’re allergic to any foods, you may be unable to use a large number of natural allergy remedies, since many involve the use of food.
Food allergies usually result in nausea, vomiting, stomach pains or in severe cases, life threatening reactions. If you experience any symptoms, such as difficultly breathing or a loss of consciousness, please seek medical attention immediately.
Some natural allergy remedies are vitamins B5, B12 and B6. Those B vitamins are known to provide relief to many allergy sufferers. To really benefit from Vitamin B supplements you should take them daily until your allergy symptoms have significantly decrease or are no longer an issue.
A popular remedy that you may have in your kitchen right now are limes. To use this natural home remedy, you will want to squeeze the juice of a half or whole lime into a glass of lukewarm water. You can sweeten the mixture with a teaspoon of honey, if you needed. Try drinking the mixture daily for a few months. The best time to drink it is in the morning. Another benefit of this natural remedy for allergies is it’s ability to cleanse your body of toxins.
Vitamin C also helps to protect the body from allergens.
Quercetin, which is found in citrus, apples, grapefruit, tomatoes, onions, berries, broccoli, cabbage, tea and wine, is a potent bioflavonoid that slows down the release of histamine.
Some good herbal remedies are Boswellia, Eucalyptus or thyme leaves, Licorice root, Stinging Nettle, and Magnolia flower.
One of my favorite natural remedy for my own seasonal allergies is Yerba Maté. I normally steep 2 tea bags in a cup of water and drink on an empty stomach to help relieve my symptoms.
